Climate LeadershipCamp

One full day that turns Grade 8–10 students into climate leaders, and the first step of a three-year climate education partnership for schools.

About the program

Climate literacy is fast becoming as essential as digital literacy and AI. The Climate Leadership Camp invites schools into a structured, three-year journey that begins with a single high-energy day and grows into a lasting youth climate community. It is not a one-off workshop, but a roadmap to informed, confident climate leaders.

Where it begins

Learn by playing, not by memorizing

The day is designed to feel like a mission, not a lecture. Students step into five roles, each with its own challenge.

  1. 01

    Climate Citizen

Connect global climate issues to everyday choices and actions.

  2. 02

    Climate Detective

Investigate real climate data and uncover local challenges.

  3. 03

    Climate Scientist

Examine the evidence and debate solutions like experts at a climate summit.

  4. 04

    Climate Advocate

Explore climate justice and learn the art of advocacy.

  5. 05

Real climate data and Nepal-specific challenges, explored through a detective game.

Short discussions and activities on weather and climate, greenhouse gases, global warming and the carbon cycle.

  4. Lunch
  5. Climate Justice

Games, videos, discussions and debates on climate justice.

  6. Carbon Footprint Check-Up

Each student completes a personal climate check-up and discovers their Climate Number.

  7. Climate Careers

The challenges ahead, the opportunities they open, and the careers growing around them.

  8. Climate Ambassadors

An introduction to #WhatsYourNumber and the chance to become a Climate Ambassador.

  9. Certificates & Reflections

Climate action reports, certificates, and time to reflect on the day.

What students take home

Four things every student leaves with

  • Climate Number

A personal impact score, like knowing your exam marks or fitness score.

  • Climate Persona

    Their personal climate “type”.

  • Climate Report

A personalized breakdown of their impact.

  • Action Plan

Concrete next steps for personal climate action.

Plus a chance to become a Climate Ambassador. Along the way students build climate literacy, leadership and public-speaking confidence, teamwork and critical thinking, and get an early look at the new careers opening up in climate.

The journey

A three-year roadmap, not a one-off event

  1. Year 1Foundation through empowerment

    The camp and #WhatsYourNumber

Every participating Grade 8–10 student explores the challenges and opportunities in climate, finds their Climate Number and joins the campaign. Climate Ambassadors are chosen from each school to carry the work forward.

  2. Year 2Activation through collaboration

    Student-led climate events

Partner schools host their own events: Climate MUNs, mini-COP simulations, climate hackathons, and storytelling, video and content challenges, across a growing inter-school network.

  3. Year 3Leadership through support

    Pathways into the climate sector

Volunteering opens to every interested student. Ambassadors get priority access to mentorship, internships where eligible, and roles with Aptech Lab and its partner organizations.

Each year builds on the last, so a curious Grade 8 student can finish as a youth climate leader with a real portfolio and real opportunities.

Beyond the camp

From camp to Climate Ambassador

The camp is the entry point to a year-long leadership journey that connects young people with mentors, schools, industry and real climate action. Only students who complete the camp can apply.

Ambassadors are chosen for

  • A thoughtful application and short video
  • Interest in climate action and school leadership
  • Creativity, communication and enthusiasm
  • Readiness to work with peers and mentors

Through Climate Alliance Nepal, students gain access to mentors and climate professionals, green careers and entrepreneurship, volunteering and internships when eligible, and public platforms to showcase their work.

“Students shouldn’t only learn about climate change. They should see where they belong in solving it.”

The Ambassador year

  1. The camp

Every participant discovers their Climate Number and becomes eligible to apply as a Climate Ambassador.

  2. Within 15 days

Applications open for camp participants: a short form and a short video.

  3. 15 days later

Aptech Lab reviews the applications and announces each school’s Climate Ambassadors.

  4. January – May

Ambassadors are mentored by Aptech Lab while they lead climate activities and mobilize peers at school.

  5. 4 June

A Youth Climate Boot Camp with Ambassadors from other partner schools.

  6. 5 June

World Environment Day: a celebration and Environmental Mela where Ambassadors showcase their work.

  7. After June

Ambassadors join the alumni community as mentees, volunteers and future interns.

  8. Next school year

A new camp and a new cohort, building a steady pipeline of student climate leaders.

The case for it

Why this matters

  • For students

They will graduate into hotter summers, more floods and landslides, water scarcity, AI-reshaped jobs and entirely new climate careers. The question isn’t “Will climate change affect me?” It’s “Will I be ready?”

  • For parents

A safe, structured and engaging day that builds confidence, awareness and future-readiness, with a clear path onward through ambassadorships, mentorship and internships.

  • For schools

A ready-made, low-effort program, visible student achievement through ambassadors, events and competitions, and a multi-year partnership that strengthens your climate and co-curricular profile.
