Aptech Lab (Appropriate Technology Lab) is a Nepal-based, women-led climate organization and innovation enterprise. We believe true climate resilience starts in the soil, in schools, and in rural cooperatives where environmental risk is lived every day.

Aptech Lab is a Nepal-based, women-led climate organization dedicated to practical environmental action and climate literacy. We combine hands-on projects like biochar production with community campaigns such as #WhatsYourNumber, helping individuals, schools, and businesses measure their carbon footprint and take meaningful climate action.
Biochar is a high-carbon material produced by heating agricultural and forestry waste in a controlled process called pyrolysis. Instead of letting crop waste burn in open fields or rot and release greenhouse gases, biochar locks carbon into the soil for hundreds of years. It also improves soil water retention, boosts crop yields, and creates new income for local farming communities in Nepal.
Nepal Climate Check-Up is Nepal's first bilingual carbon footprint calculator designed specifically for individuals and Nepali lifestyles. It allows anyone to measure their personal annual greenhouse gas emissions across travel, energy, food, and daily consumption, giving them a clear personal climate report with practical steps to reduce their footprint.
#WhatsYourNumber is a nationwide climate literacy movement in Nepal initiated by Appropriate Technology Lab. The campaign encourages every Nepali to find their personal carbon footprint number and take measurable steps toward climate action. Our goal is to reach 30,000 climate-conscious Nepalis by 2027 through community workshops, school programs, and corporate sustainability initiatives.
