Carbon Footprint Calculator for Youth
May 11, 2026

Climate Awareness Should Start Early
Climate change is no longer a distant issue. Young people are already living through its impacts, yet most climate tools and resources remain too technical, foreign, or disconnected from the realities of Nepal. At Aptech Lab, we believe climate action starts with understanding our own lifestyles, choices, and systems.
This is why we are developing a Carbon Footprint Calculator for Youth, designed specifically for the Nepali context. The goal is to help students and young people understand how everyday activities such as transportation, food habits, energy use, shopping, and waste generation contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
The tool is being designed as a simple, interactive, and educational platform that combines climate science with relatable local examples. Rather than only calculating emissions, the platform aims to encourage reflection, awareness, and action.
Why We Are Doing This
There is currently a major gap in accessible climate education tools tailored for Nepal. Most existing calculators are designed for western lifestyles and fail to reflect local realities, infrastructure, and behaviors. Young people often hear about climate change but struggle to connect it with their own lives.
We see this project as a way to build climate literacy, empower future climate leaders, and make sustainability more practical and understandable.
Methodology
- Research and adaptation of global carbon accounting methodologies to the Nepali context
- Development of youth friendly and easy to use digital interfaces
